Anthem Foundation Makes Gift to Duke University

Irvine, CA, May 29, 2009—The Anthem Foundation and the BB&T Charitable Foundation together have pledged a total of $500,000 to Duke University in support of a new five-year visiting position, to be held by Dr. John Lewis. Dr. Lewis will be a Visiting Associate Professor with the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics Program (PPE) at Duke University, effective June 1, 2009. The PPE Program is a joint program with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the goal of which is to provide students with an integrated understanding of philosophy, politics and economics. The Foundation will also contribute to a Fund for the Study of Objectivism that will support scholarly research into Ayn Rand’s philosophy of Objectivism.

“The Foundation is delighted to support a program as important as the PPE Program at Duke University,” said Debi Ghate, senior director. “We are also pleased to once again have an opportunity to support Dr. Lewis’ scholarship. We hope this gift will contribute to the growth and success of Duke University’s PPE Program.”
